At the first sign of snow melting, we can’t help but get a little excited to switch out our winter attire for sunglasses and sandals. But while we anxiously await the summer months, spring fashion, made for chilly mornings and warm days, is here to tide us over as we transition between seasons.

As the spring cleaning of our closets commences, we are walking you through the 5 must-have items for men’s spring fashion. With these 2 bottoms, 2 tops, and 1 outer layer, you can be sure that your spring style will have everything it needs to stay right on trend all season long.

Scroll down to see our top picks for making your spring fashion debut the freshest one yet!

1. The Short Short

As the temperatures get warmer, hemlines get shorter. And especially so this spring! While shorts with longer inseams are still available all around our stores, the “short shorts” trend is in full swing this season.

We love the casual yet put-together look these khaki drawstring jogger shorts have. Perfect for pairing with everything from a button-up tee to a hoodie, you can shop them at American Eagle.

2. The Graphic Tee

Whether you love rocking your favorite sci-fi character on your tee or you prefer the subtlety of a small embroidery, the wide variety of men’s graphic tees this spring means that we can all officially wave goodbye to boring base layers.

Love the springy color palette of these graphic tees as much as we do? You can find them at Express. Wear them on their own with a pair of cargo joggers or shorts, or sport your graphic tee under a denim jacket on a chillier day.

3. The Patterned Button-Up

Between button-ups, crewnecks, and v-necks, patterned shirts of all types are taking center stage this season. Our favorite of them all are the reworked Hawaiian shirts that are on the racks in tons of our stores. With more laid back designs than the typical “Hawaiian shirt”, these modern day button-ups are the canvases for fun designs like florals, leaves, and even landscapes.

You can find a wide selection of patterned button-ups at American Eagle.

4. The Windbreaker Jacket

A windbreaker-style jacket not only strikes the perfect balance between sporty and casual, but is also a practical outerwear choice for blocking out the springtime elements. Living in a place where unexpected weather can leave us wishing we had an extra layer, we think it’s a must to always be equipped with a jacket wearable with nearly any outfit in our spring wardrobe rotation.

This khaki, hooded drawstring jacket is a great go-to layer for spring. You can find it at Hollister.

5. The Light Wash Denim

When it comes to spring denim, we’re saying the lighter the better. In true spring fashion, denim washes are all about light, bright, and airy this season. Both normal and distressed styles are in, so take your pick on which you feel more comfortable rocking.

Not set on making the jump to a super light washed denim? We love these slightly distressed, light-medium washed denim from Forever 21 for making a slower transition.
