How to Get the “No Makeup” Makeup Look in 5 Steps
One of the biggest trends in the beauty world lately is the “no-makeup, makeup look.” For some advice on this trend, we headed over to our friends at BareMinerals to walk us through the process of achieving this naturally beautiful look.
Also known as “minimalist makeup,” no-makeup, makeup is when you only wear enough makeup to cover any skin concerns you may have, accentuate certain areas of your face, but look as if you are wearing no makeup at all! Not only do we love this look because it’s simple and creates a beautiful, natural look, but the fact that it’s easy could potentially allow you to sleep in a little longer (heck yes for beauty rest!)
I sat down with the professionals from BareMinerals to learn more about this look and how to achieve it. Here are a few initial tips to know:
- The key to this makeup look is to prep and hydrate the skin. The number one key is priming the skin with a fresh and clean face, moisturizer, and serums and primers.
- “Minimal” truly means that there are only light layers of makeup needed, which brings in the importance of how we treat our skin on a daily basis. The key to this look is happy and healthy skin, and a consistent routine to help us achieve that!
- Besides primer and foundation, the extra makeup needed for this look is only to accentuate our natural features. Feel free to stop into BareMinerals to find out how to personalize this routine for your face shape and skincare needs.
Now let’s dive in…
Step 1: Prep the skin
The makeup artist started by prepping the skin with the Skin Longevity and the Oasis Moisturizer. This was incredible lightweight and hydrating, which allowed my face to feel soft and smooth, without the heavy greasy feeling that some moisturizers can have. Perfect for layering under makeup.
Step 2: Apply foundation
Next she showed us the Complexion Rescue foundation. This foundation is a cult classic that is the perfect start to minimalist makeup. Buffing a small amount onto your skin will give you the flawless coverage you want, giving you a no-makeup look and feel, making your skin look both clearer and healthier. She then went over with a translucent, perfecting mineral veil to help the foundation to stay in place and last longer.
Step 3: Bronze & highlight facial features
After the skin and foundation had been perfected, she went in for some natural looking bronze and highlight, using the Invisible Bronze and Invisible Glow. She added the bronzer in the places that would naturally be bronzed and highlighter in the highest points of the face, where the sun would naturally hit, to create the most naturally luminous look possible.
Step 4: Accentuate the eyes
She then went on to the eyelid with the Neutral Eye Pallet, adding some depth to the eye lid using very subtle colors. The next step was to lightly coat the lashes with the Lash Domination Mascara. Within just a few swipes of this mascara, my lashes were longer and thicker without any clumps or mess. Having natural looking lashes is another key part to perfecting the no-makeup, makeup look. It’s all about effortlessly emphasizing your natural features!
Step 5: Finish with the lips
For a final touch she went in with a classic, natural lip, to pull the look together. For this she used the color Notorious, which was similar to my original lip color, but helped to enhance the lips and give them a little shine!
