Easy DIY Kids’ Costumes They Can Wear After Halloween
Whether your little one wants to be cutesy, sporty, or totally clever this Halloween, look no further than everyday items from our stores. Take a peek at these DIY kids’ costumes that are easy and festive, all while being kind to your wallet.
The only thing spookier than Halloween night is the idea of shelling out a bunch of money for a costume your kiddo can only wear once. Last year, we showed you easy DIY kids’ Halloween costumes created from pieces they already have in their closets, and this year, we’re doing it again!
Because these costumes are made up of clothes your kids can wear long past the holiday, they are super cost-efficient. And with the “extra items” (like props, hats, or accessories) being things you probably already have around the house, they are super easy to put together, too.
Take a scroll through the adorable costumes your kids can wear this Halloween, then deconstruct to wear again and again for months to come.
The perfect costume for your budding artist, this costume can be easily pulled together with an apron over your child’s favorite colorful clothing. To create a true masterpiece, accessorize with a beret and a few art supplies as props.
Apron (Creative Kitchen)
Colorful leggings (Justice)
Optional: Paintbrush and paint pallet
Miguel from Coco
Not only is Miguel one of our new favorite movie characters, he’s also super easy to dress up as! A simple red hoodie and jeans make this costume music to a busy parent’s ears. To really nail the look, use black and white face paint to paint your kiddo’s face like Miguel’s looked while he was in the Land of the Dead.
Red hoodie (Macy’s)
Cuffed jeans (Macy’s)
Brown boots (Tradehome Shoes)
Optional: Black and white skeleton face paint
80’s Workout Girl
This leotard/leggings/sweatband/leg warmer combo is beyond adorable, especially for kiddos whose parents loved the 80’s aerobics days. And for girls in dance or gymnastics, their leotard will come in handy with this costume! No leotard? No problem. We used a swimsuit!
Leotard or one-piece swimsuit (Justice)
Crop sweatshirt (Justice)
Legwarmers or tall socks (Justice)
Optional: Toy dumbbells
Animal costumes will always be one of our all-time favorites for Halloween. With just a pair of animal ears, a simple fuzzy sweater can be transformed into the most adorable bunny, unicorn, cat, sheep, dog…you name it! Plus, these costumes are super easy to layer up and make cozy, so making sure your little one stays warm during trick-or-treating is no problem.
Animal ears (Claire’s)
Fuzzy sweater (Macy’s)
Optional: Animal face paint or snout
Crazy Cat Lady
We can’t decide who will love this costume more: your kiddo who gets to sport her favorite Beanie Babies and cozy pajamas all night, or mom and dad as you can appreciate how adorably clever, yet nearly effortless this costume is. And the very best part: the post trick-or-treating bedtime situation becomes a little easier when they’re already in their pajamas.
Stuffed animals (Legacy Toys)
Optional: Hair curlers and slippers
For the sports lover, a golfer costume can be fully pulled together with the items already in your kiddo’s closet. We love the idea of using props to make the costume even more realistic, but if your little golfer doesn’t want to carry around a golf club all night, they could use their golf bag as a candy receptacle – adorable and practical!
Quarter zip and button up (Gap Kids) or argyle sweater vest and white button up
Tweed pants (Gap Kids)
Optional: Golf clubs or golf bag
The tween sensation JoJo Siwa is sure to make a debut in yet another form this year: Halloween costumes. This cute costume is a breeze to create at home with just a JoJo Siwa bow, colorful shirt, and denim vest or jacket. And with bows available in tons of different colors, your JoJo Siwa fan can pick her favorite.

Denim jacket (Macy’s)
Optional: Colorful leggings, shoes, etc.
